Hi there! I’m Shelley.
Thanks for clicking over to learn more about Mama Duck, myself, and our mission.
Like you, my children are my greatest calling. Also like you, I understand that great kids and strong families don’t come by chance.
Like any worthy goal, it takes work and intention!
“Your marriage, your kids, and your life will never be perfect, so you might as well stop trying now!”…. These were the words spoken to me years ago, by another mom, as I was sharing my hopes and dreams for the family I wanted to someday build.
I remember walking away and thinking 2 things:
- #1) I will never crush someone’s dreams like that!
- #2) You just wait and see!!
A few years later I became pregnant with my firstborn child and devoted my life to parenting and family education, research, implementation, and parent coaching.
My highest priority has always been (and will always be) to raise children who are fully capable, fully confident, fully committed, and build a family that reflects that mission.
The Birth of Mama Duck
When my first and second born children were 2 and 4, we practiced a lot of first-time obedience to keep them safe. When we were at an outdoor park and I called their names, they were expected to come running to me right away.
The problem with calling your children’s names out loud in a public area is obvious, and truth be told, children become desensitized to hearing their own names over time.
So we developed a call that only they would recognize so they could answer back and come to me quickly.
The call…. Was a duck quack.
It’s been almost ten years that I’ve been quacking at my children and they’ve been quacking back! I am Mama Duck.
You belong here.
You are a valuable part of the mission here at Mama Duck, where it is our goal to educate parents on Authoritative Parenting and the Mama Duck difference.
Our family of 6, a hodgepodge of farm animals, and a couple of dogs live on a mini-farm in the rolling hills of Southeastern United States, where we spend our days enjoying the gift of life.
What will you find on Mama Duck?
There are three main categories on Mama Duck.
Each category is broken down into age classifications so you can quickly find just what you need for your child, from babies through preteens.
In connecting, I focus on how to build a relationship with your child, bonding as a family, and making sure you take care of yourself.
In training, I go deep into the secret solution to (almost) eliminating the need for discipline – child training!
In disciplining, I provide clear, step by step, easy to understand instructions for choosing, implementing and following through with discipline that actually makes a difference! (without sacrificing relationship)
Everything I write and produce is with the end goal of raising fantastic adults and building strong families in mind.
Welcome to Mama Duck! I’m so glad you’re here!
